An LGBTIQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*, Intersex*, Queer*, or Questioning) Hawke's Bay Youth Group, meeting fortnightly 3.30-5pm.

BeUnique is a youth group where young people (between the ages of 12-22) who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*, Intersex*, Queer*, or questioning can meet to support, listen, inform, socialise, and just be themselves in a fun, friendly, safe and confidential environment.

What we mean when we say...

Trans*-Is an umbrella term for gender-diverse people, for e.g. anyone who identifies as; transsexual, FA'afafine, transgender, tangata ira tane, whakawahine, transmen, transwomen, Akava'ine, leiti, FtM (Female to Male), MtF (Male to Female), genderqueer and gender-neutral people.

Intersex * - is an umbrella term that describes people born with variations of internal and/or external sex anatomy, resulting in bodies that can't be classified as the typical male or female. There are many different conditions that fall under the intersex umbrella. We recognize that Intersex is more common than people think!

Queer*- is a reclaimed word that represents sexuality and gender difference. We use it to include lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, FA'afafine, and takataapui identities, as well as everyone questioning, in between and not sure. Although this word is used by many people, particularly young people, it is also appreciated that it is not the preferred term for everybody.
